This is G-Mamma's daughter, Mary Ellen. ( The Mommy to James) Well as with most things in our family, this guest post has a story. I will let G-Mamma tell you all about it when she is back in the digital age. Her computer has gone WONKY after the storms that came through our area. Here are few pics of our Tornado adventure.

I also wanted to take a few minutes to thank those of you that have prayed and wished my son well during his surgeries and rehab. I have read your sweet comments and they truly have touched my heart. We thank you! James is doing wonderfully since we have gotten home from St. Louis and Birmingham. He is so much stronger and seeing the new way he walks is a beautiful sight to this Mamma! James is using his walker to get around 75% of the time. We are working on using some canes but right now we want to get him confident on his walker before we add too much. I took him to a local playground this morning with some friends of ours and it brought me to tears how strong and straight he is walking. He could even stand up and play without his walker! Today I have some *Praise Reports* as well as *Prayer Requests* from a few followers.

Patricia says:

Good news on the Baby Max front. Prayers are the best medicine. Baby Max is getting the feeding tube removed from his nose and getting an NG tube (stomach feeding tube) on Tuesday. This way when he goes home....yes, they are talking about when he can go home... it will be easier for Gina to subsidize his nutrition with the feeding tube and to administer his Gleevac. Gleevac is the chemo cocktail that will prevent any scar tissue from forming where his heart and pulmonary veins were reconstructed during the open heart surgery.

The procedure for putting the NG tube in Baby Max' stomach is scheduled for Tuesday. It is an hour long procedure. Baby Max will spend Tuesday evening in ICU jut for observation. Please let your followers know how appreciative the Berrios family is for their prayers.

Dawn T. Requests:

Keep my daughter's good friend Jenny in your prayers. Jenny was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. She is 28 years old, a wife and mother of 2 little ones (9 months and 2years), and a dear sister in Christ. She is scheduled for surgery on March 13th. Please pray for peace, comfort and strength for her and her family, for healing, and wisdom for the doctors.

Please pray for my neighbors and community who have once again been touched by tornadoes, lost homes, possessions, places of work devastated, church buildings damaged, and children left with crippling fear of storms.

Now I have to share something a recipe so delicious for you to try this very morning or even for a Sunday Night Supper. I saw this *yumminess* on Pinterest, looked up the website, and then put my own spin on the recipe.

Two-Minute French Toast in a Cup

Cube your bread...any kind, any type

rub a pat of butter all inside of cup or melt and swish

in 2nd cup/ramekin, mix 1 egg, 3 T. milk, cinnamon to taste, vanilla (I use about 1/8th t.)

Here's where you can add some raisins for a little twist. YUM

place cubed bread (1 -2 slices) in cup

I like Sour-Dough Bread by Sara Lee

Pour egg mixture over bread and smoosh it down a little so it can absorb egg/milk mixture

Place in Microwave for 1 min....then in 10 sec. increments until it's cooked to your liking. You don't want runny eggs...ugh!

Now...add Syrup, and/or Powdered sugar, whipped cream.

This smells and Tastes so Wonderful!

A Gum/Mint Dispenser!!!!

My Grandson used one of these to hold odds and ends from that mystery toy box behind my couch. You know which one I'm talking about. We ALL have one or HAVE had one at some point if children ever cohabitated (MY spelling)with you...THAT toy box with the infinite number of legos, lego people, puzzle pieces, doll parts, cars, car wheels, lips from Mrs. Potato Head, Barbie shoes so tiny I need a magnifying glass to see them, random sizes of blocks, game pieces, plastic dinosaurs the dog chewed last fall, one magic marker with cap off (of course), a Nerf Gun Bullet, an M&M or two, a stash of REAL Bubble Gum *hidden* from Grandmama's DeSugar Bug Radar, and the elusive train track part that allows Thomas The Train to switch rails...THAT TOY BOX!!!

ANYHOO.........

I thought, "What a Great Thread Holder!"

I tried it and have been asking anyone I know to PLEASE save their gum/mint containersand give them to Me Me Me! Look how perfect the thread comes out of the little spout. Great for portable stitching projects like to the Dr.'s office! The plastic cover peels right off and 'Voila!"

Now my next hint isn't very glamorous but probably THE most used item in my sewing room. I'm a messy sewer. If a trash can is beside me, by the time those tee-tiny little threads or fabric bits *float* down to the floor they usually don't hit the actual trashcan. Now I know some of you have those beautiful weighted thread catchers all quilted and ready to sit nicely beside you as you stitch. I plan to either make one or Buy one...whichever comes first or when I have the extra cash. Until then, My empty Tissue boxes work extremely well.

Check out my cute little Fabric Arrow! I made that for my tutorial on Sew We Quilt next week! Come see me March 5th or 6th...can't remember which day for certain.

Here I've TAPED the box to my cutting table. Not very pretty but extremely FUNCTIONAL! I may have missed the lesson on *cutting a square EVENLY out of a cardboard tissue box*

I could rule the world with Duct Tape...I keep a roll in most every room of the house especially the kitchen, laundry room, bathroom, and sewing room. When full I simply empty into large bag for my weekly Trash Can removal Every Monday.

PRAYING FOR EACH OTHER

Jeremiah 29:11

I don't know if you've ever noticed but in the New International Version of this scripture, there is ONE two letter word that does not appear in any other translation. I've wondered about that word and thought about how or IF it changes the meaning in any way.

Do you see it?

It's right in front of HOPE...the word "a"

Most translations read "Plans to give you Hope" but in this version it reads "Plans to give you A Hope".

When pondering it's significance it occurred to me that the difference between "having Hope" and "Having A Hope" is monumental. It's like the difference between someone saying "I'll pray for you" and someone saying "How can I pray for you?" In the latter, you are made to feel the person saying it is tuned into you personally. Thus it is with the seemingly insignificant two letter word "a". The Lord has plans to give ME a SPECIFIC HOPE. A Hope tailor made for ME that only my Sweet Lord could know.

What specific HOPE do you need today? Do I Need today?

I already know my answer.

As you Rest and Pray Today, may the Lord of Heaven reveal to you "A HOPE"

Prayer Requests and Praise

Baby Max turned 3 months this week and Patricia reports he is doing so well he was taken out of the NICU to a regular room!!!! He has come a long way from death's door to "in a regular room" and breathing on his own after SUCCESSFUL Open Heart Surgery.

Josie: Aunt Rita and husband Bob are going through very troubled times with both having serious life threatening health issues, one Granddaughter, Jennifer (mother of 2) diagnosed with brain tumor.

Praise: Another Granddaughter is 8 weeks pregnant after 5 miscarriages in 3 yrs. A Miracle!

A very good friend and her daughter had to deal with the heartbreak of the 1 yr. anniversary of the death of Everett, stillborn and no apparent medical reason. The daughter just had a baby daughter Ellie.

I have an UNSPOKEN request that is heavy on my heart. God knows and that's all that needs to know but you can intercede in prayer for me. Thank You!

SCHEDULE ?

I could REALLY use your input!

I've been retired for almost 3 1/2 yrs. and I can't seem to find a cleaning schedule that works efficiently. I have to admit, I was spoiled because when I was working, I had a housekeeper that began with monthly cleaning, then every 2 weeks, and toward the end she was coming weekly. Therefore, I only did the laundry, cooking, and straightening up. The more labor intensive chores were thankfully done by two of the sweetest friends on the planet. They became friends over the years and I never had to feel afraid to give them a key to my house.

THEREFORE...

Now that I'm retired, I can't really justify paying someone to clean my house since I'm home every day and the biggest reason of all ... my retirement pay is significantly less than what I was paid on my teaching salary.

I need to put my Big Grandmama Panties on and Relearn how to "keep house" as my mother used to say.

I want a weekly chore schedule that will work for me as well as blend in with my babysitting responsibilities.

I like to do all my wash plus change sheets on Monday. I clean my downstairs bathroom on Mon. as well but am flexible on everything but Mon. wash. From there, it gets all "Wonky"...my new favorite word!

I have 3 bathrooms, upstairs has 4 bedrooms, downstairs has a half bath with large kitchen, den, and dining room. I need to work in sweeping porches since I'm a little OCD about my front porch looking good.

I want to do most of my chores in the morning to leave time for sewing while Sidekick naps from 1-3:30.

I don't set aside time to iron...my method is to iron as needed.

ICE CREAM BREAD???

ICE CREAM BREAD???

I"m not kidding! I found this on PINTEREST, my newest addiction of choice. With only TWO ingredients, I HAD to try it. Lo and behold, it's the best thing since "sliced bread"...a little play on words.

Here is a picture of my FIRST loaf of Vanilla Ice Cream bread. Recipe calls for ANY flavor ice cream. I only had Vanilla so that's what I used. 2 cups of softened ice cream, 1 1/2 c. self-rising flour, Mix together, batter will be very thick, pour into a prepared pan (I used generic brand spray oil and flour ), place into pre-heated 350 degree oven and bake for approx. 40-45 min.

Start checking at 35 min because oven temps vary. One batch was ready in 40 min while 2 other batches were ready in 45 min. I tried Butter Pecan Ice Cream but wasn't as thrilled with the flavor and neither were the grandpeeps. I also added about 1/8 t. extra vanilla to my vanilla ice cream bread batch.

A little butter on warm ice cream bread...YUM!

You HAVE to give this a try!

(the plate is a $1 thrift store find. I only have 2 and think they are so pretty)

ICE CREAM BREAD

2 C. ICE CREAM (any flavor) softened

1 1/2 C. SELF RISING FLOUR

VANILLA OR OTHER FLAVORINGS (ADD TO TASTE, OPTIONAL)

Pre-Heat Oven to 350 degrees. Mix ice cream and flour together till forms a stiff batter. Scoop into 8x4 greased/floured loaf pan. Bake for approx. 40-45 min till golden brown on top and toothpick comes out dry or with few crumbs. Remove from oven, release bread from pan, allow to cool 10 min, before slicing (IF you can wait, I could NOT).

SUNDAY PRAYER TIME TOGETHER

Today is the Day that the Lord Has Made!

It is a cold, rainy, blustery day here in North Alabama. My House is very quiet on this early Sunday morning.

I'm thinking of those of you who have prayed for Baby Max this past week. Good News, Patricia sends us the following PRAISE!

1)Baby Max Update:

"48 hours after Max' open heart surgery and he is doing well. He still has a long road ahead so if it is not too much to still request prayers, I would like to do so.

Is James and your daughter coming home this week? I have been keeping them in my daily (sometimes several times daily) prayers, too."

3) JAMES UPDATE:

James and his mother have ONE MORE WEEK of Therapy Boot Camp! Whoo Hoo! James has made astounding progress and here is a picture of him pushing a grocery cart. This is a HUGE accomplishment so let me hear CLAPPING!!

4) How many of you have faced a storm this week? Or perhaps are anticipating a storm to pass your way?

My God is an Awesome God and can meet your every need.

Also, I noticed something yesterday that may or may not have anything to do with Prayer Request Sunday but over the past 2 weeks, I've lost 5 followers. Just like that...and it made me wonder if somehow Prayer Request Sunday had offended someone? I don't plan to stop Prayer Request Sunday because I don't blog for popularity. I do, however, want to be sensitive to those who have chosen to take the time to read my blog. I am human after all so when I look at that "number" it makes me sit up and take notice. It also makes

me painfully aware of a need most of us have and that is the need to be liked. I admit it...I want you to like me. I don't however, want to be someone I'm not just to make people "like" me. After all, we are a bit past High School, aren't we?

The people who count the most are my family. Am I doing everything I need to be doing to meet the needs of my family. My role has changed over the years as have the needs of my growing family. Grandchildren are now my primary focus although my adult children still seem to "need" their Mama. I've retired the "yellow hairbrush" that meted out correction from time to time. No more "grounding" or taking away the car keys. Now, I spend much more time in PRAYER for my family because prayer is my main source of guidance these days. Prayer SHOULD have been my main source all the time but time, age, and wisdom have taught me that sage advice.

So...I will continue Prayer Request Sundays until I feel led to do otherwise. If you have any comments on my thoughts I'd love to hear them. Continue to send me your prayer needs and I will covenant with you to pray.

Thinking Outside the Box

Max has made it through open heart surgery!! The doctor had to think outside of the box for this one. He literally had to take his heart out of his chest then reconstruct everything. He fixed the four veins and the hole. Max is doing great and we will get to see him soon. It was a lot more complicated than he thought. But Dr. Baird is a genius and just saved my baby's life. I am completely overwhelmed with joy. Still a long road ahead but there is a road. Thank you all for your prayers. Keep them going!!

I have my 12 blocks cut out and ironed down but as you can see I have not "zigged or zagged"

ZigZagging is on the Tuesday Agenda.

I'm planning a nice dinner at home with Cornish Game Hens (little baby chickens as the commercial says! LOL I know not everyone gets this reference but a very popular commercial uses this line in the dialogue and it's very funny...trust me! Tell me if you "got" this reference)

I'll share some more unfinished Wonky Houses and then give you a James update for those of you keeping up with my Grandson. James is currently in a 3 week Physical Therapy Camp to strengthen his leg muscles after his surgery to lengthen the ham strings.

JAMES UPDATE

Here is a picture of James STANDING on his own in

an Adeli Suit/Spider Suit....

This suit properly aligns every muscle in a person's body and can be VERY uncomfortable. In fact, the therapist stated that when she put the suit on during her course training, she Passed Out!

It allows so much sensory perception into the body that it can be overwhelming. It's amazing and so are the Therapists trained in using the Adeli suit with CP children. Children come to Birmingham from all over the world to receive this cutting edge therapy. I'm so grateful that it is only 2 hrs. from our home.

Patricia's Friend's Infant Baby Max:

Max was not doing well as of mid week. I have emailed Patricia and hope to get a current status ASAP. I will update the blog as soon as I get an email back from Patricia. Max's mother was overwhelmed with the knowledge that people all over the world was praying for her little baby boy. Thank you my sweet friends.
***Monday update:
Good news on Max – he moves to Boston today. Doc there do some type of vein repair and then chemo to break down scar tissue to help heart work correctly. They have done this on six babies (I think someone told me that) and all six are still alive a couple years later. So much better news than a double lung and heart transplant, which is what they heard last week.

Baby Max and Gina (his Mom) are in Boston now. Max is going for another cath to check everything out and most likely will have the vein repair surgery tomorrow. Thank you for your continued care and prayers for Baby Max.

Jannette's Mother:

Loyal Follower, Jannette, asked me to request prayer for her 83 yr. old mother who has been diagnosed with cancer in multiple areas of the body. Prognosis is not good, HOWEVER, Jannette says her mother has made clear to everyone her "ROOM" is reserved and she's ready! What courage and Strength!

Cheri:

another loyal follower is saddened over news that the mother of her granddaughter's best friend has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

Gmama Jane:

Grandson James has two more weeks of intensive Physical Therapy for post surgery lengthening of his ham string muscles. He's missing his Daddy very much! Josh has to stay and work during the week but gets to see his family on the week-ends. My daughter told me the saddest little story: Thursday, James was convinced his Daddy was going to be in their room when they came upstairs after dinner at the Ronald McDonald House. James walked in the room, giggling, undeterred by the fact that he didn't see his Daddy. Josh and James always play a game of Hide-n-Seek so little James on his walker assumed his Daddy was hiding. All the while, Mama kept telling him that Daddy wasn't coming till Friday night. After searching in every nook and cranny of the small room, and realizing Daddy really wasn't there, James slumped to the floor, lowered his head, and said, 'I guess Daddy just forgot where I was." At this point of the story, I burst into tears. Of course, my daughter immediately arranged for James to video chat with his Daddy to reassure the little fella that Daddy was indeed coming Friday after work. Isn't that the most pitiful little story? I could just see him with his head hung down wondering where his Daddy was. In his little mind, Daddy didn't know how to find the Ronald McDonald House.

I'm pleased to report that James had a great week-end with his Daddy and all is well. Two more weeks to go!

Josie's friend: Connie over at "A Day at aTime" http://www.adayaatime2.blogspot.com/ has Strep Pneumonia and hospitilized. She's a real spunky gal and needs our prayers.

Lisa: Her 22 yr. old friendship with Selina and she is broken over her friend's grief at losing her 24 yr. old son. Can any of us imagine that grief? Perhaps someone out there knows that pain and could offer a special word of encouragement.

Kaaren : The Painted Quilt. Many of you may know her and already know of her struggle with cancer & Chemo treatments aways from home. Kaaren lives in Nova Scotia and designs a monthly free embroidery design. She is a lovely person and needs our support.

That's my story for this post. Another week begins tomorrow and I always look forward to Monday mornings now that I'm retired. A whole week with my Sidekick Scott and 6 days of doing primarily anything I want to do!

Babysitting Grandson Scott

Poor Baby! Scott has Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye), sinus infection, fluid behind the ear-drum,

PLUS...He decided to play BARBER this week when he found sharp scissors at HIS house (not mine!) and proceeded to cut the front of his hair..to the scalp! His Daddy tried to buzz his head in an effort to "blend in" the cut portion but now Scott just looks like a little sore-eyed bullfrog!

Embroidery Remnant

I'm brushing up on my Embroidery skills so when I found this remnant at a local fabric shop I bought it with the idea that I could practice my embroidery stitches and ultimately use the remnant as a Quilt Center. I keep it in my purse to work on when I find myself waiting somewhere.

A sweet, kind, and Loyal Blog Follower requested that I pray for her friend's infant son, MAX, who was in critical condition.

I don't know any other details other than this little boy is in a life and death struggle for his young life. The IMPORTANT thing to know is that GOD knows the situation as well as every hair on Max's precious little head, every finger, every toe.

I felt it important to share P's request with those of you who are called to PRAY. Several years ago, I made a covenant with the Lord. I promised that when and IF anyone asked me to pray for someone or some situation, if physically possible, I would stop at that moment and intercede in prayer for that person or situation. God promised to bring to mind the person and situation in the days ahead so that my prayers would continue unceasingly. Amazingly, we BOTH have kept our promise. If you ask me to pray, you can count on my Word as my Bond...I WILL PRAY!!

My Best Friend My Sister

MY BEST FRIEND...MY SISTER

WELL...

Since Jan. 7th...Not so much!

She took a tumble outside her back porch, broke her ankle and the two leg bones attaching the foot to the leg...

Hey, but she did it all with her usual grace in that she did not spill a drip of her coffee!

Not the "exact" mug but one similar.

My nephew then takes it upon himself to "recreate" the scene of the crime by placing the coffee cup on the sidewalk at the spot where his mother landed and THEN draw a CHALK OUTLINE around the cup like you might see in an episode of CSI or NCIS.

Imagine a coffee mug in the middle of this outline!

The picture was inserted on her birth date for the annual family Birthday calendar!

After a 3 hr. surgery, metal plates, screws and enough metal to set off every metal detector from here to California, Sister is convalescing at home unable to do much of anything but go back and forth on her walker to the bathroom.

I flew up last week to lend a hand at playing nursemaid...However, she has one of these RARE Breeds of a husband who already waits on her hand and foot and NOW he's trying to wait on me!? I have to catch him gone to work to make myself useful. This man does all the laundry so I have to make sure I fold the towels to his specifications!! Ladies, this man is One of a Kind, I tell ya!! If we could bottle him up and sell him we'd all be Rich!!

Anyhoo, I'm not getting much sewing done other than some handwork. I did sneak off to Wal-Mart and buy some cute fabric to make Grandbaby items. This Wal-Mart still sells fabric on the bolt. while mine at home stopped selling fabric off the bolt 2 yrs. ago.

I'll be flying home next Wed. and I will HAVE to tell you in my next post the story about taking Xanax before I flew out, getting lost in the Charlotte airport, asking for help and almost missing my connecting flight. Oh yes, who knew that Xanax and some of my new meds. wouldn't jive? I might as well been three sheets to the wind. I'm a white knuckle flyer that took Xanax last time I flew 2 yrs. ago with No Problem.

Some of you have told me you are having trouble commenting on my blog as of the last post.

However, a very sweet follower sent me this little tidbit of Techi advice and she said it solved her problem and was then able to post.

I am unable to comment - not sure why blogger has this little quirk. Another blog suggested we all go in and change our setting for comments FROM "imbedded in the post" TO "separate page or pop up." I was able to leave a comment after she did that.

Truthfully, I'm not quite sure if I even understand, but give it a whirl as will I.

In the meantime, if I get more emails from you saying you're having a problem, I'll enlist the help of my sweet friend and mentor.

Madame Samm...She is the guru of troubleshooting blogger problems. I just hate to bug her if I don't absolutely have too especially since she is spending so many hours on her digital design computer course.

Please let me know IF you are having a problem and IF this bit of advice helped solve your problem.

Jane from Jane's fabrics got a great idea to do a Wonky House swap. I had NEVER EVER heard of Wonky Houses much less making a Quilt with them?? Geez Lueez!!

This next picture shows a set of Signature Blocks made as a part of the Wonky House Swap.

I made these in less than an hour. I'm thinking this pattern would be perfect for James' memory quilt I mentioned in my last post. My intention is to make YOUR contribution as SIMPLE with little time taken from your schedule. What do you think?

4 in. Signature Blocks

I used 2 1/2 in. strips and the middle strip is larger than the two ends but that's OK. My math skills wouldn't allow me to figure out how to get them even. I could divide but I couldn't transfer that number to my measuring board...I know it's embarrassing. I actually Taught this stuff but my brain wasn't having anything to do with helping me get those strips even. So..that means YOU can't make yours even either!! Ha!!

I'm dedicating an entire post to James's quilt this weekend. I have to choose MY fabric before I can let those of you who want to make a signature block go ahead and make one. I was quite pleased at how many of you interested in making a block. I made it simple and quick for you!

A LITTLE SIDEBAR........

I'm off to Traffic Court, TONITE...yep, the Gmama got HERSELF a little ticket a few weeks ago driving 55 in a 45 mph. zone early one morning going to a doctor's appointment. I'm cruizin along WITH the traffic and don't notice the BlUE FLASHING LIGHTS behind me until I go thru the traffic light The policeman has to trun on his siren before I realize I'm in trouble! I pull onto a side street and when the officer comes up to my window I ask him what I've done?? I honestly had NO IDEA I was speeding....and to top it all off...guess who had let her license expire??? Yep...Yours Truly! I can explain why, but it would take a whole 'nuther post to tell THAT story.

ANYHOO...I figure I'll have a Great story after going to Traffic Court with all the DUI's and other miscreants ...I'm hoping the judge will waive the license fee since I have a current one now. That is the usual practice but then it IS the GMAMA we're talking about and USUAL PRACTICE can mean a WHOLE 'NUTHER STORY................

Life with the Gmama is much like watching an episode of the old show from the 50's "I Love Lucy"

BTW, #1 Hubby just rolled his eyes when I told him ...gotta love that man!

James Update

James Update

Here he is!! James in his walker enjoying some sunshine, 2 weeks after surgery!

For all of you who prayed, sent words of encouragement, cried, smiled, inquired, and most of all CARED....My Heart says THAN YOU!! I didn't want to overload my blog with James updates but SO MANY of you have asked about his post surgery progress I decided to give you a short update.

As you can see, James has recovered his smile and gaining strength daily. Although James is using a walker, he walked out of therapy on Friday on his own without a walker while holding the hand of his Physical Therapist. Granted, the walk was short and slow but it was a HUGE PROGRESS from 1 yr. ago.

This is the same child Doctors told us would most likely be wheelchair bound for most of his life. This was AFTER we FINALLY got a medical professional to give us an official diagnosis of CP. Get this, one Doctor told my daughter around 9 m. old that James was, and I quote, "Just a wimpy little white boy" and he would be fine...go home and quit worrying...there's absolutely nothing wrong with this boy...he just needs some time to catch up. Close your mouth, pick up your jaw off the floor...Yep...isn't that some kind of professional diagnosis?? Wimpy Little White Boy ...wonder what chapter in Grey's Anatomy that came from??

What can I say?? That is the world we've lived in for the last 4 yr.s...my daughter has had to be her own medical researcher, her son's advocate, and fight like H_ _ _ every step of the way.

Currently...

The local Physical Therapists don't want to follow the PT protocols put forth from St. Louis, simply because they have a philosophical difference with the folks at St. Louis and the approach they take with CP children.

DUH!???..HELLO...the proof is in every step James takes as to whether he should have had the SDR surgery!! Needless to say, my sweet daughter shouldn't have to fight the PT.

Therefore, every 2-3 months Mommy and James spend 3 weeks at UAB for PT camp, live in the Ronald McDonald House a block from the Hospital, just so James can get the Correct intensive therapy he needs to make maximum progress.

The First surgery was in June 2010 at St. Loius Children's Hospital and we like to say he got the "extension package" 2 weeks ago at the same hospital. The Dr. lengthened Jame's heel cords without actually cutting the heel tendon. This technique is not the norm for children with Cerebral Palsy in that the tendon is usually actually cut. Only 10 other doctor's do this type of surgery across the U.S.

If you've made it this far in my post, you are truly a loyal follower. I got on my soapbox as I wrote so please forgive me. But, I needed to vent just a wee bit. I'm a very grateful, positive, and blessed person. I don't like being negative but every once in awhile I have to get something off my chest. Thanks for listening.

Tomorrow or Wed. I will be writing about a new quilt I want to make for James. I made him one when he was a baby but he needs a new one. He loves robots so I'm thinking a robot themed quilt. I would really like for all of my faithful followers to help by possibly making 6" signature blocks to be placed in the quilt as my corner blocks and/or borders/sashing. I haven't designed the quilt as of yet but wouldn't it be special for him to have a quilt to commemorate his successful surgery with signatures of all the people who prayed for him, thought about him, loved him, or even encouraged me or his parents. I'll tell you more in my next post. I'll see if I get enough interest before I proceed with the design. Give me some feedback PLEASE!

I just got word that surgery is running behind schedule, James was getting very upset due to no food plus fear. He has been given some medicine to calm him down, plus, they are allowing his mommy to walk all the way back to surgery and stay till he goes to sleep!

However,according to Dr. Parks at St. Louis Children's Hospital...

Based on an intensive Pre-Surgery Evaluation....

Drum Roll Please.....

WE ARE LOOKING AT A FUTURE INDEPENDENT WALKER

YES, it's TRUE!!

The Pre-Surgery Evaluation was filled with such Good News my daughter could hardly contain herself. I won't go into the 2 hrs. before when her insurance company told the Hospital they did not issue insurance to the P family. After many phone calls back and forth between Hospital, Insurance Company, Corporate Office and one HUGE Emergency Prayer Request Phone Call to ME...Divine intervention came to the rescue and ironed out out the little details. Surgery could proceed as planned.

However, Dr. Parks, who did the initial SDR surgery on James in June of 2010, could not believe his eyes upon looking at James, his movement, increased strength, and the on target nature of specific markers they look for when making a prognosis of whether a child will be an Independent walker or one needing walkers/canes/wheelchair. He looked at my daughter and said these MAGIC WORDS,

"BASED ON EVERYTHING I SEE, JAMES SHOULD BE AN INDEPENDENT WALKER. HE MAY NEED ASSISTANCE WHEN WALKING FOR LONG DISTANCES OUTSIDE, BUT GIVEN HOW HE HAS SURPASSED EVERY PROGNOSIS SO FAR, I AM CONFIDENT JAMES WILL BE AN INDEPENDENT WALKER."

MY PRAYER REQUEST

James, 4 yrs. ,born premature, diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy

James will be having a 2nd surgery this Thursday, Jan. 5th, 2012 at St. Louis Children's Hospital to lengthen the heel cords. Another procedure having to do with the leg muscles is possible dependent upon a pre-surgery evaluation.

The fear is the Dr. will go too deep, lengthen too much, and result in an irreversible floppy head and back (not a very medical explanation but the best I can come up with) James will be under general anesthesia which always worries me because he has lung issues as well.

As you may imagine, I can't begin to concentrate on anything else this week but my precious James. School starts back this week so my Sidekick Scott will return and its time to go back to the orthopedic Dr. to see if #1 husband can return to work after being off work for 2 1/2 months due to shoulder surgery. If you have followed my blog for very long, you know "THAT STORY" LOL!

SO...

My Dear Friends, May I ask for your Prayers for my Grandson James.

Pray that the Doctors hands and eyes will work together perfectly as they make the incision, that James will tolerate anesthesia with no problems, that the heel cord will be cut precisely, that no infection will invade his little body, that his pain level will be manageable if not negligible, that his parents will be at peace, and that this surgery will further James' progress toward independent walking.

My first REAL post of 2012 will be Monday morning, Jan. 2, 2012. I have so much to be thankful for and the year 2011 brought so many of YOU into my life. TO those of you who FOLLOW Grandmama's Stories, let me tell you how humbled I am that you take time out of your day to read and comment on my blog.

A Dear friend and follower, Sandra D. recently sent me a precious ANGEL ornament from her "Heaven's Little Angels" ornament collection... prophetically called "Gentle Hugs". I can't tell you how much this angel has meant to me not only as a lovely gift but in many ways God revealed His answer to my prayer for 2012 through this angel. Rather than New Year's Resolutions I prefer to think and meditate on a word or focus for the upcoming year. Last year my word/focus was HOPE. In so many ways, Hope was renewed in the areas I most needed it to be revealed.

For whatever reason, I just could not find my word for 2012. I at first selected the word CONTENT but on further consideration, I realized I am already content...it's just not an area I need to improve or wish for because I'm already there. I selected the word rather than MY Father.

I knew I wanted to be kinder, more sensitive to the needs of others, and to work harder in the nurture of certain relationships. In Sandra's sweet note, she noted that I had been an "angel" to others. Humbled by her compliment, I felt it very undeserved and thereby resolved to truly BE "angel-like" in my relationships with family, friends, and strangers placed in my path by divine intervention.

I have a tendency to be a little "snarky"... a word I use to describe my behavior when I'm sarcastic, smartalec, edgy, etc... I sometimes say things that are misinterpreted because of my dry sense of humor. Therefore, I want to be more "angel-like" yet not losing my sense of humor, just more in tune with how my words effect others. I may have the best of intentions but if those good intentions are not perceived as well intentioned then what have I accomplished?

I haven't been posting as much and I'm sure you can understand that Christmas at GMama's house is in full swing. I'm only 1 gift away from being finished and tomorrow looks like one more round of baking.

I've been sewing frantically in my sewing cave trying to finish up those last minute gifts. I can't share since someone may peek at this post and get a clue as to what their gift may be!

Let me share these easy Scrap Fabric Ornaments you can make with all the left over snippets of fabric.

You Will Need:

Styrofoam balls (med. size my preference)

Assorted fabric squares from 1 1/2 in., 2 1/2 in. or 3 in.

Blunt pencil (colored pencils very dull work great)

Ribbon for making a hanging loop

Straight pin

Take fabric square place on styrofoam ball and punch the middle with pencil just enough to anchor the fabric square. Do this with each fabric square covering the entire ball to suit your taste. I like mine full and colorful. Make a ribbon loop and secure with a couple of straight pins. I used an assortment of some "ugly" fabric squares but made a GREAT looking fabric ornament which made a colleague very happy to take home for her tree. I made enough for my Sunday School class. Makes a great activity while watching TV or a Ballgame as is the case most of the time in my home.

Putting up the Christmas Tree

I have a Love/Hate relationship with my Christmas Tree

From childhood up till 5 yrs. ago, nothing but a LIVE Christmas tree was allowed in the house. Some of my BEST childhood memories were going to Hale's Christmas Tree farm in West Virginia, picking out the perfect tree, my Daddy cutting down the tree, carrying it home on top of the car and watching my Dad wrestle with an old fashioned stand...a board nailed to the bottom of the tree!

Who remembers these silver trees from the 60's with a color wheel!!

5 yrs. ago, #1 husband and I contracted the Nashville flu (at least that's what we call it. 3 weeks before Christmas,we went to see the Rockettes Christmas Spectacular at the Opryland Theater in Nashville, Tenn. and by the time Baby Jesus was born and the Three Wise Men sauntered down the auditorium aisle, we had the full blown FLU.

Needless to say, neither of us felt like putting up Christmas decorations, much less a Christmas Tree. The Corner of the Den where the tree ALWAYS stands, remained vacant while Ma and Pa ~~sat~~ lay in their matching recliners too sick to pass the remote. The offspring were more concerned about there being no Christmas tree than they were that Ma and Pa were on their death bed.

Finally, Baby Girl and #1 daughter felt compelled to put the tree up themselves while we supervised from the cheap ~~seats~~ recliners.

This is not my home, I just loved this wall hanging!

It was from this point on that I have felt no love for anything regarding the "putting up" of the Yuletide Tree. #1 husband and I have figured out if we leave "the tree corner" flagrantly EMPTY, sort of like a Christmas tree version of "chicken", two of the three offspring will swerve and decorate the tree for us. #1 son could care less but would put it up if we asked. The girls, being girls, just know it has to be done. It's one of the perks of having girls. Sons are usually not the sentimental type. Know what I mean?

Our contribution to "putting up the Tree" is getting the tree out of storage, into the bed of the Ford 150, up the front steps of the Farmhouse, and into THE CORNER! We're thinking that next year if we play our cards just right, we may figure out a way to ~~connive~~ hand over this chore as well especially since I don't see us chopping down a tree anytime soon.

Once the tree is decorated, I love touching each ornament and reminiscing about where we were, what we were doing, or what the ornament represents. I love sitting in the evening with just the light of the tree, a good cup of coffee, and Christmas music in the background,

watching a New Episode of NCIS, NCIS L.A., Person of Interest, Blue Bloods, The Mentalist, or Criminal Minds (my 6 TOP watched shows)

As much as I loved putting up the Christmas tree when I was little and as the children were growing up and all home under one roof, my "LOVE" of the Christmas Tree is more After the fact...AFTER my girls have swooped in and saved me from a Treeless Christmas. I get to enjoy all the perks of having a tree without all the yuck.... the yuck of being reminded that my children are all grown, that my mother has been gone 8 Christmas's now, that I'm reduced to getting my tree out of a storage building rather than being cut down while on a family outing, that there will be no little ones waiting for Santa on Christmas Eve at my house, and that I can no longer hear the bell ring (watch Polar Express to understand this metaphor).

HOWEVER,

Once the Tree is up, I'm reminded that long ago, a child was born of a Virgin, in a manger, lived a sinless perfect life, was crucified at age 33, was buried in a borrowed tomb, arose the third day and sits at the right hand of the Father....all because I NEEDED A SAVIOR.

TO SWAP OR NOT TO SWAP

I'M A LITTLE BIT WONKY

Do you participate in many of the various quilting type "swaps" available in our virtual Blogworld?

Up till now, if something wasn't sponsored by the blog, Sew We Quilt and Madame Samm I didn't much bother. Although, I did participate in 2 apron swaps on Flirty Apron Swap. It was fun and I received much better than I gave. And THERE in lies the rub...I don't trust my sewing skills to measure up with most of you in the Quilt/Sewing World. I have this bad dream of someone receiving a package from me and giving a big ol Southern,

"Good Lord have mercy, what in the world is this? That poor little thing thinks she can sew. I hate to hurt her feelings but I'll never use this. It's SO BAD, I won't even be able to REGIFT it."

SEW, with all these feelings whirling around in my head, what did I do??? Yep, you guessed it....I signed on with Jane at Jane's Fabrics and her WONKY HOUSE SWAP/SIGNATURE BLOCKS SWAP.

No you didn't?? Afraid so....Some poor soul out there will have to receive two of my blocks. My reasoning for participating was this: Each of us swappers gets 12 different Wonky House blocks and 12 different Signature Blocks from totally different quilters so ONE TRULY WONKY per quilt does not a bad quilt make. Right?! Please humor me and tell me I've not used up ALL my common sense!

I found some examples of signature blocks as well. These look easy peasy...no problemo.

These little mini quilts are perfect for gift giving and I plan on making several.

Here are some samples from quilters last year that I copied!

I went to our local Craft Fair this past Friday afternoon and boy Oh Boy did I find some cute ideas. You've seen them but it's always good to have someone remind you at how easy it would be to make something simple to give especially when you have a large number to buy for such as the girls in the office, school faculty, daycare workers, nurses in labor & delivery, NICU nurses, Sunday School class, etc...

KLEENEX HOLDER

Look at the fabric choices!! I'm making 47 for some precious senior citizens at a nursing home. My youngest daughter adopted a local nursing home and has taken upon herself to make Goodie Bags for over 60 residents. This child of mine helped care for her Grandmother, My Mother, who had Alzheimer's and has a genuine love for the elderly. She told me today, "Mama, I always say I wish I had adopted a nursing home resident for Christmas. Well, this year, I'm going to really do it. I've adopted 60 residents at one of the poorer nursing homes where I live. Do you want to make something?"

Thus, the Kleenex Holder idea was pulled out of my bag o' tricks

Here is a tutorial if you're interested in joining me. I'm making 60 of these little cuties in my sewing cave this week.

How to Sew a Cloth Tissue Holder for Your Purse
- 1
  Measure a 7 x 5 ½ inch square on a sheet of typing paper. Cut the shape out. This will be your tissue holder pattern. Label the pattern so when you store it, so you will remember what it is for and can reuse it. Measure the width of the fabric and cut a strip. Then take the strip and cut the lengths. You can cut both pieces of fabric at once with this process by placing one piece of fabric on top of the other. This makes the task go faster.

  Supplies
  Select two coordinating fabrics. Iron the fabric. The project takes only a few square inches of fabric making this is a perfect project to use leftover remnant fabrics. Specialty fabrics are ideal because they are bright and colorful and have fun motifs. The choice of fabric can personalize the tissue holder making it a fun gift. Using the pattern cut two pieces of fabric one from each pattern.

  Place top side of the fabric together and pin the short edge (5 ½ inch) sides together. Sew a ½ inch seam from short edge on each side.
- 4
  Turn the tissues holder right side out and iron.
- 5
  Inside out
  Fold the finished edges towards the center and then pin the raw edges together. The folds measure 1 ½ from the long edge and should come together in the center of the tissue holder. Sew a ½ inch seam from the short edge.
- 6
  Finished
  Turn the tissue holder right side out. Use a ruler to push the fabric into place in each corner. Place tissues into the tissue holder.

FABRIC ORNAMENTS

Supplies:

Assorted Holiday Fabric Squares 2 1/2 in. small/med.

3 1/2in.----4 1/2 in. large

Styrofoam Balls - assorted sizes

Ribbon for Hanger

Pencil

I use pinking shears to cut out my squares. Take the eraser end of pencil, place in center of square and push into styrofoam ball. Repeat over the entire ball making sure to cover the styrofoam and make the ball full looking. Vary your color themes. I am making some Blue and White ones as well and Black and Gold. Loop your ribbon and use a straight pin to pin ribbon hanger to the top of ball. Use picture for reference. Go Crazy, Have some fun...this a great project to do with your children or better yet, YOUR GRANDCHILDREN!! WHOO HOO!!!

#1 Husband Update:

Orthopedic Dr. would NOT release Mr. Gmama to go back to work! He will re-evaluate #1 on Jan. 4th and then not sure if he'll release the big guy. Dr. is afraid of my hubby being bumped in the school hall or worse...be put in a situation of having to defend himself which would destroy the shoulder. Doc says the shoulder is VERY FRAGILE (remember this word FRAGILE printed on the Award box to the Dad in the movie The Christmas Story??? so funny) due to it being a "Re-Section"

A Simple Woman's Daybook

Outside my window: It's dark with a cold rain and forecast of rain changing to snow flurries...anywhere from simply flurries to 3 in. That's snow forecasting in the South..Flip a coin cuz nobody really knows what's going to happen.

I am Thinking: of taking some old button down shirts and making aprons from them. Check out these Pinterest pics. Aren't they adorable?? I'm thinking of gifts for Christmas??

I am Thankful for: Oh my Goodness, I'm so blessed Dear Lord, where do I begin to thank you?! My first thought was of my precious Grandchildren...look at those faces...I could just eat them up!

From the Kitchen: I made a Big pot of Veg. Soup with a pan of cornbread...yum! We were tired of Thanksgiving leftovers and with it being so cold outside, a big pot of soup sounded not only delicious but cozy as in "comfort food". Throw in some Chocolate pie and coffee and I'm in heaven. I've eaten WAAAY too much Coconut Creme Pie...Oh be-still my heart

I am Reading: The Help

Around the House: All Thanksgiving decorations have been taken down and stored. Christmas Decorations are sitting in boxes in my foyer waiting to go up.

One of MY Favorite Things: The following pictures show the combination of TWO of my favorite things, Embroidery and Children's Literature. This illustrator and fabric designer has embroidered Book covers of 3 well loved Children's books. Have you read these books? It's my understanding you can now order these patterns from Penguin Threads at Amazon.com and I intend to purchase them as soon as payday rolls around this week.

Sew We Quilt

I've got a great Quilt Ornament Tutorial to share as well as some "Secret Santa" projects I'm working on. I've got to buy a new adapter for my camera so I can get the pictures from camera to Blog...some great pictures are sitting patiently and waiting to share with you. I bought a new cord thinking the problem was in the cord but no such luck. I now need an adapter for my little Kodak Share camera. Please be patient with me and keep visiting.

#1 Husband goes back to Orthopedic Doctor this Wednesday!

We will know if he goes back to work full time, part time or not till Jan. Physical Therapy has been extended for another month which makes me think he may only go back part time if at all. Trithfully, as much as I would like to have him out of the house for a few days, he really isn't physically up to full time as of yet. He can do more for himself...thank goodness...but still needs help with many activities involving the right arm lifting upward.

Blessings to each of you as we here in America celebrate Thanksgiving!

It has become one of my favorite if not my most favorite Holiday...

no presents, few decorations, just Good Food and Family!

I've not blogged much this past week as I have been getting my home ready for family. We won't have as large of a group this year but with just my immediate family there are 12...so that's a CROWD in my book!

Today I battled the grocery store for the upteenth time this week!

I'm making my own pumpkin pies this year

I use the recipe on the back of the can of Libby's Pumpkin Pie Mix.

DeWIcious according to 3 yr. old Sidekick Scott

He was quite upset that Grandmama left him home with PaPaw while she went grocery shopping!

"But you'll be all alone?!" cried Sidekick Scott.

A 3 yr. old doesn't understand that being all alone can sometimes be a gift!

I'll be back later this weekend perhaps not till Monday depending on how I feel. I usually decorate the house for Christmas on the Sat./Sun. after Thanksgiving now that I've given in to having an artificial tree. I stood my ground for years...LIVE TREE ONLY..until I finally got tired of the pine needles and the shortened amount of time I could leave my Christmas tree up and I gave in to putting up a FAKE TREE. I must admit, I can't tell the difference. Now that I'm older and the experience of going to a Christmas Tree farm, picking out the perfect tree, and cutting it down is but a delightful memory, putting up my fake tree is quite nice.

Back Seat Driving

My Day with #1 Husband

You just thought you had heard it all! Yep, things were going WAAAAY too smoothly with the Mister's surgery recovery. Now granted, he's on his 2nd prescription of pain meds. NEVER, in the 40 years I've known this man has he EVER taken more than 3-5 pain pills from any prescription...in fact he prides himself on having a much higher pain threshold than any normal human being. According to Mr. Know It All, his ability to suffer through pain could be described as almost Super Human.

UNTIL......

ROTATOR CUFF SURGERY OCT. 2011

Against my better judgement I give in and let #1 husband drive himself to therapy...it's only a 6-7 mile drive. How much trouble could he get into?? Right??

WRONG!!

I get this strange call around 10:15 a.m. from the mister wanting me to come get him because he isn't feeling too well. I'm a little concerned but given that he called me himself I'm not overly concerned at this point. I get Sidekick's shoes on as well as my own and give a passing glance at my appearance...granted I had just thrown on a pair of jeans and one of my old summer pull overs intending on cleaning house. I DID have on CLEAN Underwear...just in case. Hey, I'm no fool. Didn't your mother warn you to always wear clean underwear because you never knew when you might have an accident and have to go to the hospital? I may have looked like crap on the outside but my Granny Panties were WHITE with NO HOLES, thank you very much!

I drive the 6 miles to the Physical Therapy clinic when I see RED LIGHTS FLASHING from the top of the Rescue Squad Truck!! Ok, I'm NOW Overly Concerned!!! I grab Sidekick from his car seat (do child seat restraints have a hidden rule that they will NOT open when you're in a hurry?) I'm running into the PT office hoping it's NOT My MISTER the red lights are there for...but no such luck!

There he sits, with 3 EMT's surrounding him and he turns around with that sheepish grin letting me know he REALLY didn't mean to cause such a scene.

It appears that the mister's Blood pressure bottomed out and he came close to passing out. With a BP of 60-47, it was necessary to call 911.

Since some of the mister's symptoms mimicked a small heart attack, a little trip to the ER was in order. I make arrangements for me to drop off Sidekick on my way to the hospital. Poor baby, he was so discombobulated when the EMT's put his PaPaw in that Big Ol Ambulance. I tried my best to reassure the little fella but it's difficult to explain such complexities to a 3 yr. old. (Sidebar: we called tonight to reassure Sidekick that PaPaw was Ok but seems he was too busy playing a video game to come to the phone... Geez...life can be so compartmentalized by a 3 yr. old!)

I get over a mile behind the Ambulance when I drop off my little man so in order to "legally speed" I turn on my Hazard lights....I know, I know it doesn't work....I can still get a ticket...but I figure it tells the other drivers to get OUTTA MY WAY...GMAMA has her PEDAL to the METAL!

I finally catch up to the Ambulance and while sitting at a red light my cell phone rings..but it's #1's name on the ID window??!! What???..............Did #1 leave his phone back at the therapy clinic and they're calling to locate the phone's owner ? Sure, that's probably it.

NOPE...IT'S THE MISTER, CALLING FROM THE BACK OF THE AMBULANCE TO TELL ME TO TURN OFF MY HAZARD LIGHTS!!

I MIGHT GET A TICKET!

Ok...it COULD have been me 40 yrs ago.

The Man is BACKSEAT DRIVING while Lying on a Gurney in the Back of a moving Ambulance that's transporting him to the ER!!! Geez Louise............

Long story short, The Mister is FINE!! He just "Fell out" as he calls it. Evidently, his body reacted to the perfect storm of pain, pain meds.,needing to eat, and blood pressure dropping. All blood work, EKG, heart, all looked perfectly normal.

NORMAL is a RELATIVE term when it comes to this man I married.

For all the Aggravation he can give me, I think I'd like very much to keep the Mister around to aggravate me a lot longer.

I had this very same doll house! Oh, the HOURS I spent pretending, rearranging the furniture...

I loved the tiny pink bathtub and toilet. I even dreamed of growing up and building this very house.

Where is all the tiny furniture? Someone actually found this in a thrift store. Be still my beating heart! If any of you find one, PLEASE tell me. It is one of my Bucket List items.

She came in every issue of my Mother's McCall's magazine. I adored paper dolls...did you? I even *made* my own paper dolls out of the SEARS and J.C. Penny Catalogs.

S and H GREEN STAMPS

Remember licking these little stamps, putting them in booklets and saving them up to buy "stuff". My Dad bought a lot of my necessities for setting up housekeeping from the S&H catalog.

Grocery stores and Gas *filling* stations gave out the stamps according to how much you purchased.

This was almost as good as looking through the SEARS Catalog.

Of course all of these items are primarily American. I would love to see some items from the 50's those of you in Canada and other parts of the world remember!

Psst...I've ordered an USB camera cord that will allow me to take current pictures of my sewing projects. My current cord got chewed by our Beagle, Copper and I've had to rely on my daughter for current photos. This is not convenient for either of us and I certainly am anxious to show you some creations coming forth from "The Sewing Cave". I had a major cleaning frenzy in my cave so I'm ready to "get busy". I clean when I get nervous!

You are the wind beneath their wings, never ever give up on them, challenge them, set realistic but High goals for them, love them unconditionally, and most of all Have Fun with Them!! We were told James would always be wheelchair bound. Look At That Smile!! Someone forgot to tell James!!

The Past Two Weeks in Ghastlie Land

has been such

I gained some new followers from our Ghastlie Journey and I hope you will continue to visit often. You never know what's going to happen in my world and with #1 Husband being in Shoulder Rehab mode I can promise more *interesting* stories. Right? What has Gmama Been up to in the sewing cave?

Well, some things got finished and some did not. You see, #1 Husband had this little surgery thing...well most of you who read my blog regularly know what *fun* we've been having here at the Farmhouse. I did, however, manage to get a few Ghastlie Items made and I'll admit it was great Therapy to retreat to my sewing cave and spend time with all my ghastlie friends...my favorite being Miss Prudence aka Hammer Girl. So here goes......

Seriously...for just a moment...the last few weeks around the Farmhouse have been a little "challenging" to put it nicely. Having these ghastlie projects to work on has been such a stress reliever and has brought more than a few smiles on some dreary days. Knowing that YOU, my Sistah's in Crime, would be here to cheer me on, kept me going. No, I didn't finish everything but I didn't even allow that to stress me. I was having fun! Thank you Mathilda, Prudence, Sebastian, and all the other Ghastlie Cast of Characters for making the load a tad bit lighter. Thank You, My Friends and Loyal Followers.

Here's what I FEEL like after Today!

Sidekick Scott and I took Mr. Ghastlie to PT (physical therapy)

Bandages were removed...Whoo Hoo!!

10 Staples because Dr. had to shave bone to make the two anchors fit.

PT said incision looked great but it was a Doozy for this type of surgery.

Yep, the Old Guy did it up right!

When asked about his age and trying to break up a fight between two 17 yr. old young men,

Mr. Ghastlie's reply,

"I was a real Bad A_ _ for 1 minute. The only problem? The fight lasted 1 minute and a half!"

Gotta Love Him!

Well, My Ghastlie Sistah's, nothing is simple when it comes to Gmama and #1 Husband. Yesterday's wing clipping was no different. Would you believe that we SLEPT THROUGH TWO ALARMS!!!! WE're supposed to be at the hospital at 6:00 and we wake up at 6:00!

Oh Yes, indeedy we did! The mister wanted to Blame me but didn't have a *wing* to fly on so all he could do was mumble ugly words under his breath while we both got dressed.

Do any of you remember the cartoon, HillBilly Bear? The Father HillBilly Bear grumbled under his breath ALL the time and although you had no idea what the words actually were, you knew exactly what he was saying!!!

and FINALLY get hold of an actual person only to find out THEY have the old bat scheduled for 10:00 wing clipping!

What happened to 8:00 actual surgery 6:00 Pre-Surgery???

ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Boo Mobile 2009

AS we FLY through the air in our Boo Mobile, lights flashing, lane changing, hearts pounding, we arrive safely...I think!

WE get to 3rd floor and no one but the two of us seem concerned that we're past Late!!

Pre-Surgery team sets into motion, #1 puts on his fashionable new attire that doesn't close in the back...Know what I'm talking about? Yes, you do!!

OFFICIAL WING CLIPPING BEGiNs AT 10:20

Things go well with the tiny exception the Dr. found much more damage than first thought which meant Plan A of Laproscopic surgery was changed to Plan B with Incision needed to complete the shoulder repair.

FAST FORWARD.................

Recuperation and Recovery is going to be much longer than anticipated.

and so the Saga continues.....

I'd like to sic Mathilda Ghastlie on two little 17 yr. old thugs that thought it would be a good idea to continue their gang squabble (he disrespected my girl) onto school grounds...

One of our Friends is in Need and and has asked for our help. I for one made the two blocks above but since she's extended the deadline to Nov. 31st I'll be making more. I enjoyed making these blocks while I prayed over each stitch in hopes it would bring comfort to this grieving family. Apple Butter Marathon

MARATHON

I'VE BEEN MAKING APPLE BUTTER FOR THE PAST 24 HRS +!

Yes, I said 24 hrs+.

I've been reading blogs with all these warm and fuzzy posts about Apple Butter recipes, apple butter making, how wonderful it makes their home smell, how EASY it is to make, blah, blah, blah...

SO...
I wanted to write about MY own warm and fuzzy Apple Butter making experience...

Most recipes say to cook for 7-8 hrs. in Crock Pot. Well, my Crock Pot must be on "Granny putting on her support stockings" cooking degrees because after I peeled 10 lbs. of apples (which took me TWO HOURS), mixed up the sugar and spices, put it all in the crock pot around 1:30 p.m. Wed. afternoon, it STILL looked like brownish Applesauce by 10:00 P.M.

So...

I turned it down to "Granny walks 10 miles to town on her walker" and when I got up this morning it still wasn't THICK like in all the pictures OR in my jar of Cracker Barrel Apple Butter.

So...

I turned up the heat to "Granny got Her Groove Thing On" and waited till 6:00 tonight, Thursday.

FINALLY...

APPLE BUTTER!!

MY WAY!!

Google Apple Butter and you'll get TONS of recipes. That's what I did!

A couple of suggestions:

1. Adjust spices to suit your Family's Taste...translated, I'm going to nix the Allspice and go with just cinnamon next go round.

2. The owner of our local Apple Orchard told me today she makes her applesauce first, Then places it in a roasting pan and places it in the oven on low. I don't know what Low meant but I would suggest 170 which is as low as my oven will go. She says it doesn't splatter or cook too fast. She adds cinnamon during the last hour of cooking.

The Moral of This Story

If I can't buy my Apple Butter made in a large Copper Kettle from the Methodist Women in the WalMart Parking lot back home in West Virginia????

Bestill My Heart....I know you're asking yourself who is my Designer. Sorry but I can't divulge such secrets. The Organizational Expert who came in to put all this together has gone big time after showcasing my sewing room as his last project!
