REASONS A SOUTHERN GAL NEEDS FABRIC

REASONS A SOUTHERN GAL NEEDS FABRIC

  1. It's on Sale!
  2. It's good for the economy by supporting my local cotton farmer friends.
  3. Supports my local quilt shop, Patches & Stitches
  4. What else would I use my 40% Hancock's/JoAnn's/Hobby Lobby coupon on?
  5. It doesn't need refrigeration.I don't have to cook it, can it, freeze it, or make relish with it.
  6. To adorn myself in my favorite college regalia on any given Saturday in October.
  7. It does not cause Lyme disease, Tick fever, West Nile Virus, or Rocky Mtn. Spotted Fever.
  8. It is less expensive than psychiatric care.
  9. Can be used to make a casserole carrier for the next funeral casserole.
  10. It is not fattening.
  11. It has no Trans Fats or artificial sweetners.
  12. I don't have to feed it, water it, change it, put it in time-out, wipe it's nose or take it's temperature.
  13. It can be used as a head cover to protect from flying debris spawned by a tornado.
  14. It can serve as a seat cushion in a Storm Cellar during a Tornado Warning.
  15. The one who dies with the most fabric wins.
  16. It can be used as Table Covers for the next Bridal Tea, Jr. League Brunch, Baby Shower, or Church Shower.
  17. It is a necessary base for all monogramming.
  18. Used to make matching basket covers in which to serve food at my next Southern Football Tailgate Party.
  19. For sewing Monogrammed Dresses for little girls with the required 5 ruffles and matching Hairbow the size of Alabama!

WHAT HAVE I BEEN DOING?????

WHERE IN THE WORLD IS
GMAMA JANE?

THIS PICTURE POST WILL GIVE YOU SOME IDEA OF
WHAT I"VE BEEN DOING AS OF LATE rather than Blogging?

It's graduation/end of school season around here which means graduation and awards day programs.

My Sweet Scott
Some of you recall that Scott was a baby when I began blogging.  I had just retired and started babysitting this little guy when he was only 6 months old.  My how 5 yrs does pass quickly! That cheesy grin is so fake which shows how much he Hates having his picture made.

Sweet Baby James
Born Oct. 8, 2007
Premature...diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy

Look at this Cool Little man "WALK" to get his diploma!! Got that Miami Vice look going on.
This day came as a result of a LOT of therapy and sheer determination by James and my daughter Mary Ellen aka, James' mother!  I have to admit I shed some tears watching my boy trying so hard to get across that gym floor.  The lady with blond hair is James' aide and she is Wonderful as is his Teacher!!
Hats off to Mrs. Jamie Solley, K Teacher and Mrs. Linda, James' personal assistant!!

A few Doll Quilt Swaps

Keen On Green March Swap

Cozy Cup Holder ready to be sewn.
I've made 6 of these to put away for Christmas gifts

PaPaw aka Tractor Man and his wing-man, James cut grass

I lost some pictures of the garden and a few quilt projects due to my lack of tech savy.  I just hope I can retrieve them with the help of my son.
Currently working on 3 throw size teacher quilts, a T-Shirt quilt, 2 more T-Shirt quilts on back order, and May's Doll Quilt Swap Quilt "Something Modern".  I don't normally do modern quilting so this is out of my wheelhouse BUT....I'm actually liking it.  Who Knew?

GRAND OLD LADIES

GRAND OLD LADY
#1

BIG BERTHA
This Grand old lady is HUGE, King Size at least.  She was found in a thrift store beside our local Hobby Lobby.  It's difficult for me to pass up a thrift store and this [articular one had been on my radar everytime I shopped at Hobby Lobby (which is OFTEN)  The owner is so cool and seems to know every object  treasure in his store.  I browsed quickly since it was getting late and I don't drive after dark (can't see).
As I was leaving, I made a mental note to come back when I had more time and that's when I spotted Big Bertha...lying in a pile of 2 other quilts...on the floor, tattered, dirty, but I could tell she had good "bones"  I immediately took her to the register since with a price tag of $12.99, how could I pass her up?  The owner told me he was 78 and he KNEW the quilt was older than him!

Big Bertha came home with me and went directly into the washing machine.  Yikes, I can hear some of you purists out there crying in your cornflakes...SHE PUT THAT VINTAGE QUILT IN THE WASHING MACHINE???  IS SHE CRAZY??

The back fabric is old Fertilizer Bags!  Every block is made from vintage cotton fabrics

I'm here to tell you unequivocally, I am a CLEAN Freak... no, I didn't say Organize Freak or Neat Freak...I said CLEAN Freak.  If something isn't clean, I don't care how priceless the item.  With this little idiosyncrasy about me revealed, you Might understand why Big Bertha needed an 80+ yr. old Much Needed BATH!!!

OH MY....BIG BERTHA Loved her bath, no more wear and tear than before, but she smelled wonderful, felt soft and all crinkly like old quilts should, and I could rest easy wrapping up in Bertha while sewing/watching TV.

FAST FORWARD 2 months and Big Bertha has become well loved and a necessary creature comfort here on The Farm.  In fact, Tractor Man and I make a run for the old gal every evening before the other one can get to her.

Yep, she truly is a Grand Old Lady....and to think I almost missed her...Oh what a tragedy.  I plan to begin repair on the old gal but for now, we're just getting acquainted.  I don't want to upset her too much, after all she is VINTAGE....HANDLE WITH CARE.

Here are some pictures of 2 more Grand Old Ladies that live on The Farm.

 GRAND OLD LADY #2
Made from the Housecoats of Tractor Man's Grandmother!

Grand Old Lady #3
My mother made these Sun Bonnet Sue Blocks while another precious Quilter did the quilting.  She apologized for asking $25 to quilt this quilt.
Sue is a little thin and tattered but Oh So Soft and Cozy!

Do YOU own any Grand Old Ladies?  I hope they are receiving the TLC they so richly deserve!

INDOOR FLAG FLYING TODAY

WAVING MY FLAGS

My Patriotic Flag.
(The true colors are a much richer red, brighter royal blue)
There are 64, 3x4, rectangles sewn and folded into this star! I started this project at my Sassy Sewer Retreat in January not knowing what I was going to do with it.  I decided to add borders and make a flag for my front entrance.  I have yet to add the laminate to both sides.  I found the laminate at my local Hancock Fabrics.

A closer look at each fold.  The pattern is found at Moda
Fancy Folded Star.

#2

GET  DRESSED
This design is in part from a dress pattern given to us by Madame Samm
approximately 4 yrs ago.
I loved the dress patterns but never got around to using them until now.  Since I am remodeling my large dining room into my new sewing room, I like the idea of using this dress pattern as part of my room design... Oh yes, there will be MORE of these!

Rainy days don't make for great photos...sorry!
Check out the background fabric I found....Looks like the instructions inside a dress pattern.  Hmmm....I'm getting some new ideas even as I post these pictures...I can envision some painting on one of my walls using this idea???  Are you with me??  Any good sewing room ideas?
BRING 'EM ON!!

MAKING A MARRIAGE LAST OR....

HOW TO KEEP THE HOME FIRES BURNING

Tractor Man came inside THIS AFTERNOON to deliver these....
Y'all, he looked just like a little 9 yr. boy bringing his girlfriend a bouquet of just picked flowers!
My Heart went Pitter Patter...even after 41 yrs.
(note to young couples:  this is HOW you keep the home fires burning thru the good and the bad)

So many young couples ask my husband and I just HOW we have stayed together for 41 yrs.  I tell them that marriage takes a love of God, work, time together, and LOTS of laughter.  A Bouquet of fresh picked yellow Daffodils from the farm are more priceless than Two Dozen Roses from the fanciest Florist in town!!!

Men, THIS HOW it's Done!!

I'm a Lucky Lady!

Blessings

Don't Forget me and my blogging friends on Monday to see what we've come up with for
