WONKY SWAPPING

TO SWAP OR NOT TO SWAP
or
I'M A LITTLE BIT WONKY

Do you participate in many of the various quilting type "swaps" available in our virtual Blogworld?
Up till now, if something wasn't sponsored by the blog, Sew We Quilt and Madame Samm I didn't much bother.  Although, I did participate in 2 apron swaps on Flirty Apron Swap.  It was fun and I received much better than I gave.  And THERE in lies the rub...I don't trust my sewing skills to measure up with most of you in the Quilt/Sewing World. I have this bad dream of someone receiving a package from me and giving a big ol Southern,

"Good Lord have mercy, what in the world is this?  That poor little thing thinks she can sew.  I hate to hurt her feelings but I'll never use this.  It's SO BAD, I won't even be able to REGIFT it."

SEW, with all these feelings whirling around in my head, what did I do???  Yep, you guessed it....I signed on with Jane at Jane's Fabrics and her WONKY HOUSE SWAP/SIGNATURE BLOCKS SWAP.
I found these examples in blogland but can't "member"(as Sidekick Scott says) where
WONKY HOUSE

Another Wonky House
Wonky Houses in progress

No you didn't??  Afraid so....Some poor soul out there will have to receive two of my blocks.  My reasoning for participating was this:  Each of us swappers gets 12 different Wonky House blocks and 12 different Signature Blocks from totally different quilters so ONE TRULY WONKY per quilt does not a bad quilt make.  Right?!  Please humor me and tell me I've not used up ALL my common sense!

I found some examples of signature blocks as well.  These look easy peasy...no problemo.

I'm actually excited about participating because this Wonky House swap appeals to my quirky sense of humor.  Here is the link so you can join in IF there's room.  Jane, (the Jane that can REALLY SEW and has her own  ETSY Store) is only excepting 60 wonky blockers (my term, not her's)

Would you like to get your WONKY on and join us? If so, just WONKY on over to
P.S.  Say a little prayer for those receiving my blocks!! LOL
Blessings

  1. Nope, you're not crazy, not even one little bit. And the wonderful bonus of a "wpnky" swap is that it doesn't have to be "perfect", but wonky. As long as they finish off at the correct size, anything else goes. That's what "wonky" is all about. So, my advice, for what it is worth, would be to forget about trying for perfection, which we will never achieve in this life, and have fun with it. There, lecture over. LOL!!

  3. We are our own worse critic - wonky is free expression and fun. I like this swap, but I have set a limit, so will enjoy watching others.

  4. Um, yeah, I have only joined two swaps...both were hosted by my sister in law, and had people I personally knew in them (Hey, they knew what they were getting...LOL) I have seen many swaps that looked fun...but, nope haven't joined them...LOL...can't wait to see your wonkys!!

  5. The only swaps I have ever done were in my own quilt group and each made twelve blocks the same and gave one to each member. Then we all put our blocks together as we wished. One meter of the same fabric was given to each person and used in the blocks so they went together well. I think "Wonky" calls for machine piecing so I am not tempted to join such an exchange.

  11. Jane I haven't joined this swap though I've been tempted. I'm still trying to finish UFOs and that means I cannot allow myself to add anything new. I wouldn't worry about sewing skills - wonky houses ought to hide all mistakes. :) blessings, marlene

  12. I'm just getting into blogland and so the swap things seem very daunting. I loved hearing your comments cuz I thought I might be the only one who thought my sewing wasn't up to swaps. By the way, your houses look dang good to me. I did read about Jane's Wonky House swap and read all the info - it's intriguing - can I do it? Do keep me posted on the whole swap thing, OK?

  14. I'm sure your blocks will be fine, you made me laugh though.
I remembered a BOM with wonky houses, thought you might like to have a look.
It's German, but the pictures tell enough I think ;-).
'Zur Anleitung' means: 'to the pattern'.
    Enjoy
