Funeral s and Deviled Eggs

FUNERAL FOOD
Here in the south, funerals are all about consoling the family and FOOD!
Food is brought to the home of the bereaved family and in most cases it's enough food to feed a Third World Country!  I suppose it's the feeling of not knowing how to console the grieving family and friends so we do what any proper southern woman would do...Feed the Folks!!

Sadly, my husband's Best friend lost his sweet Mother on Saturday.  Our home seems to be Funeral Central and I didn't know The Farmhouse would be the destination point for the out of town guests until about 2 hrs. before company arrived!  I'm usually stocked pretty well but the sheets needed changing due to a Grandbaby sleepover.  Oh Dear, I wish I had done____, and ____, and ____, etc....
So...needless to say I've been rushing aorund like a chicken with it's head cut off
as well as
FEEDING the FIVE THOUSAND!
Deviled Eggs
A prerequisite for any proper southern funeral wake

#1 Husband is conducting the Funeral this afternoon (no, he's not a pastor) but sadly this family did not have a church affiliation and #1Husband is the closest Christian friend in their sphere of reference.  That saddens me greatly and has made me stop and think about my sphere of influence.
I would hope I leave this world with lots of Fried Chicken, Potato Salad, and most importantly
Deviled Eggs!
Not for me,
I'll be feasting with The King of Kings at the Lord's Banquet Table
but...
for all those I've loved and left here on this earth for a little while longer...
I would Hate to think they were left craving
Just One More Deviled Egg!

I' m signing off today.  I have Deviled Eggs to prepare...Lots of them!!

  1. I think one can live a Christian life without attending church.....that's the icing on the cake, as it were! The important thing is that people are good to each other and try to do the best for the world as they can. The food at a funeral is so important, as it gives folk time to draw breath and just talk quietly with each other about the life lost.

  2. Your choice of words has made me smile because it does appear that in addition to the eggs, you are serving up a lot of headless chicken. Thanks for leading by example.

  3. You are such a wonderful Christian friend and I wish I could help you make those deviled eggs. I to had a sleepover with my grandson this weekend and I am exhausted because he insists I sleep with him and I don't sleep a lot because he is a cuddler . So I am off to bed but I will write tomorrow a longer letter to tell you what I bought on my shopping holiday. Blessings

  4. I am sorry to hear about your loss. My husband did a funeral for a friend who lost his wife to cancer several years back, he was so blessed to lead her to the Lord right before she passed away. My husband is not a pastor, but she asked him if he would do her funeral when she passed away! Pretty amazing...:)

You are so sweet to make all of those deviled eggs. They are such a treat, and the family I am sure loved them all...:) May God bless your lives for giving of yourselves.

    xoxo...Gloria

  6. Oh, I am so sorry for your family's loss. It should be a comfort to you to know you were a positive influencein her life.
With all that is going on in your family you still found time to post at madam Samm's blog. Thanks for the spool tutorial, I love the pics. Do not enter me in the giveaway of your blocks though. I have so much going on right now I would not get to them for a very long time and that would be a dissapointment. I do like them...and have lots of RBW to go with them.
    Blessings
