Fishing in the Cold!

Indulge me my dear friends...let me share a few pictures
from our week at Gulf Shores, Alabama.
Have you been to the beach in the Fall?
I would love to hear from you!
This is our 2nd year to take our beach vacation in October only this year our week was later in the month.
We searched on line and found this house...perfect for our family!

The BEACON II
Built back after Hurricane Ivan in 2004 

This was one of my FAVORITE spots especially in the evening!

#1 Husband and I spent some wonderful peaceful time together in this spot.

Add a Fire for late night cool temps and SMORES.

I personally prefer simply roasted marshmallows...no chocolate or graham crackers for me.

Sand Castle 2012

I love making sand stairs!

I've played in the sand with my children all their lives and now it's the grandpeeps turn.  My family claims they will make sure I have access to a sand box in the nursing home!  LOL!!

If I weren't so proud of that little fish, I would NEVER let you see me in my beach shorts but hey...it is what it is...the Gmama

loves life!...fat legs and all!

This house had everything to make a vacation Perfect!

Josh caught this speckled Trout and long with the Flounder the others caught we had a most delicious seafood lunch one day

Alabama's Beaches are all like this...sugary soft white sand!

I even found time to make 3 project Linus Blankets for our local NICU.  I set up my sewing machine in front of the French Doors, threw open the doors, and sewed to the background music of ocean surf...AAAHHHH!!!

A GIFT IN THE MAIL

 brought me this week!!

  

I'm in a very nice FaceBook group called STITCHES FROM THE HEART.

We recently had an apron swap and my swap partner made this lovely full size apron for me!

I love it because it covers me (no Sunday Dinner Hand wipes on my Dress clothes), it's light and not heavy around my neck, it's COOL (Temperature wise, I mean) and it's vintage looking.

AND...for those of you who have asked...

The House remodel is still in full swing and my nerves are in full swing right along with it!  I hate chaos, and this is just about more than I can bare.  I'm unable to cook which at this time of year is Painfully hard for me to do without.

  Isn't that a pitiful looking stove???

Before the hardwood...

However, some progress in that the bottom white beadboard is up but still needs caulking and that last coat of glossy white paint!!  The cream color above is light and will go well with the antique white cabinets/

The new Kitchen lighting goes in Monday along with the cabinets.  WHOO HOO!!!!!!

My new Dining room floor...NO MORE CARPET!!!

 I shouldn't complain...I'm ashamed of myself. 

 I am so Grateful and Blessed to be able to remodel and update my home.  God has Blessed us over and above and I hope to cook many meals out of this kitchen not only for my family but for those who need a Home Cooked Meal.  I'm going to be a new *MEALS ON WHEELS* Driver/Cook?Volunteer!!!!

There is such a need in every community...if you are able, check into how you can become a volunteer!!

I think I need a week at the beach...Gulf Shores Here We Come!!  Do you like the beach in cool weather?  WE DO!!  #1 says the Fishing is great and I can sculpt sand castles with NO HEAT!!  Sweet Baby James wants to build a sand dinosaur with Grandmommy...tough job isn't it?

#1 and Gmama at Marshall vs. Tulsa Football Game

#1 Husband and Gmama traveled 600 miles back to our Alma Mater last weekend.  The occasion was Homecoming 2012. Marshall University, Huntington, West Virginia.  We stayed with long time best friends, Allen & Jeanie who are the kind of friends that regardless of how long you've been apart, the minute you see one another, it's as though you never miss a beat...like you saw each other the day before...you pick up the conversation right where you left off...

Roger and Allen played football for Marshall back in 1971.  The Movie, WE ARE...MARSHALL, chronicles the true story of the University losing 75 players, coaches and boosters in a tragic plane crash Nov. 14th, 1970.

Anyhoo...

In 1972, as college sweethearts, #1 carved our initials into a huge Tree, Maple or Oak I'm not sure.

Going back this past week-end

We had to stomp through some weeds and an overgrown path in search of the tree located in Ritter Park.  A bad storm felled the tree around 15 yrs. ago.  I wanted to look to see if our initials had survived 40 yrs...unlikely but I could hope.

A sweet young Man and his girlfriend were on the bridge beside "Our Tree", fascinated by our story, the young man went in search of our initials.  No success, so we began walking back through the brush when we heard voices yelling at us to stop!  The sweet couple, out of breath but excited, said they had found our initials after further searching!  I gave them my camera in hopes my dream of finding our initials might come true after 40 years.

Here is what they found!!!!

The *S* is There!!!!

My Maiden Name Initial survived 42 years!!!

I can't remember being so excited about finding something!!

I promise, no editing was done!!  This is the original initial my Roger carved in that tree 40 yrs. ago while on a fall walk in the park, 1972!

I apologize for my ABSENCE on Monday's *Leafs Me Happy* Blog Hop!

I was 600 miles away in West Virginia when I learned that back home at the Farmhouse there had been a mjor crash of Cable TV, Phone, AND Internet!  I didn't find out until today that my post did NOT post .  

PLEASE forgive me. 

 I have posted my LEAFS ME HAPPY Quilt Blocks and projects for Today's Post.

The Blocks were made from String Blocks in Fall Colors

The Apples are applique with utility quilting stitches using Perle Cotton Thread in variegated red/black.
