IT'S CHRISTMAS IN JULY

The Tree and Pinwheel Table-Runner are 2 UFO projects from last year
that are now on the FINISHED list
Thanks to the HO HO HO Blog Hop!

Open the Gate...Come On In!!

A Closer Look
What you can't see from this photo is the beautiful cream colored moire fabric on which the ornaments are appliqued.

I took a Christmas Panel, added borders and...

Quilting...

and More Quilting...
VOILA
"QUILTS IN THE SNOW"
This table runner is going on the new Kitchen Table

Completed Pinwheel Table Runner
"CHRISTMAS CANDY"

Lots of Free Motion Quilting...

The backing is almost as pretty as the top!
I had to add a piece of Blue Christmas Fabric to make it fit.
I'm really in to making scrappy backs for large and small quilt projects.

Metal Office Clips did the job...

The afternoon sun gave the projects a nice *Christmas in July* sparkle.  Plus...the temps yesterday were very "fall like"

Don't worry...I left the latch unlocked just for YOU!!
Otherwise, it would be locked!!!
(Those of you who read my blog know about my robberies and issues with Fear.
More fencing will be going up in the spring)

I made this tea cozy today as a future gift
I even lined it.

Tissue Covers...These make terrific little stocking stuffers
Here is a good link to get you started on making your own

  2. Oh Jane, I love everything you made! Especially the pinwheel table runner. You will be all decked out for the Holidays!

  3. I am a follower. Of course the best thing of all is having family around, a noisy house again. When my kids were little, the stockings were my favorite tradition -- I searched all year for the coolest little things and they loved sifting through their treasures. Now every Christmas morning I make beignets for family Christmas breakfast because my first grandchild was born in New Orleans. After we open gifts, we pop open Christmas "crackers" and laugh like crazy over the silly riddles and toys.

  4. Your projects are lovely. My kids are grown now but they still enjoy the gag gift I give them every Christmas. Last year I started the 12 days of Christmas where on the 12 th day they start opening title gifts. They seem to be enjoying that.

  5. I am a follower. I love all your Christmas items but the appliqued tree is my favorite. We have always opened our gifts on Christmas Eve but Santa always left gifts for the children to open Christmas morning. Everyone is grown now but they all come to my house for Christmas Eve Dinner and gift opening. After the presents are all opened and everyone who is staying all night is tucked into bed, Santa still visits and leaves gifts for everyone under the tree to open Christmas Morning. The magic of Christmas.

  7. Our Favorite tradition is picking your Christmas stocking you want for that year....I've made many stocking......we put them on the floor and then pick a name out of a hat and that person gets to pick which stocking they want and so forth....till everyone has a stocking....

  8. I like all of your Christmas projects but I love your table runner, Christmas Candy! Very nice! I am a follower. For the past twenty some years, our children, grandchildren, neighbor family, their children, and grandchildren, all gather for a fondue dinner on Christmas Day evening. When this started, the children all brought their favorite Christmas gift. Now their children, the grands, bring theirs! ~Jeanne

  12. Fabulous projects and so beautifully photographed and displayed. My favourite Christmas tradition is on Christmas Eve we go outside once it is dark and wave sparklers and call out to Santa letting him know this is where we are. I stated tis when my first son was born and now he does it with his children. It is really magical.

  19. What wonderful Ho Ho projects! Your tree with the appliqued circle ornaments is my favorite! Christmas is quiet here with children and grands scattered around the world. I do make lots of cookies and candy to share with those who are also alone.

  20. I am a follower and love your Christmas tree - really gorgeous. We live in Indonesia where most people don't celebrate Christmas and one of our traditions is to take Christmas treats (candy canes or home baked goodies) to our friends in the village on Christmas Eve.

  21. I'm a follower! When my kids were little it was a tradition to take one evening and make sugar cutout cookies. Decorating the cookies was a favorite activity for my kids. I was soon to find out that this tradition was not only a favorite with the kids, but a couple of my girlfriends started making a point to show up every yearon sugar cookie night. The rule was no cookies could be eaten unless they were broken. As a young mother these cookies were given as gifts to teachers and neighbors. Often I heard "oops this one is broke". I would hear the kids giggling and I would know a cookie was dropped "accidently". This tradition went on for years. I miss those evenings when my single girlfriends would become child-like with the help of a few broken cookies and the magic of Christmas.

  46. What wonderful projects Jane, as usual! And I'm thrilled to see your fencing, a bit envious too. :) At my house our favorite custom is that I give each grandchild three Christmas presents - Jesus got three presents at His birth and since they are so special to me they each get three. One is for the gold, a symbol of wealth, something they want and not that they need. The next is for Frankincense which was a perfume used in sacrifices; that gift represents a gift from the heart...something handmade. The third is for Myrrh, a perfume for embalming and purification; that gift is something useful, something needed. blessings, marlene

So their first Christmas being married to my sons we took them to the mountains. It was fun. On the way home we stop and eat at a Cracker Barrel restaurant.

  62. Your projects are lovely! I especially like the tea cozy. I wish I could be so "together" and have my Christmas gifts started. (I have started thinking about what to make! LOL)

One of our favorite traditions is putting out the manger scene in parts. We try to put out the pieces on a timeline. The animals show up first, then The Lord Jesus isn't in the manger until Christmas morning, next the shepherds arrive and the wise men don't show up for a few days after Christmas. The holy event takes on an excitement for all of us.

    I'm already a follower!

    Thanks!

My favorite Christmas custom in our house is the gumdrop tree. I have a little plastic tree that gumdrops stick on. We keep it filled with gumdrops all season, so that if anyone touches one and it disappears (what my uncle told me when I was little), we can put a new one on. We've had a gumdrop tree since I was a little girl.

  65. Hi, I am now following you :) Your table runners are very nice! Thanks for sharing the tissue cover link. I need to make some of those for quick gifts. My favorite custome is getting together with my family to celebrate the birth of Jesus and having a wonderful Christmas dinner.

  66. Lovely Christmas projects, Jane! Good that they could be put into use for the hop and hooray for finishes! You have been busy on your giveaway projects and holiday gift giving as well. THX for the opportunity. I am a follower from a previous blog hop. Favorite custom? We as a family always drew names among the 6 of us kids. My dad being a pastor we were not Santa believers so we usually opened presents on Christmas Eve. Then we would play with whatever new toy we got and stay out of Mom's hair so she could cook the holiday dinner. Of course as I got older I helped.

  67. Ohhh I love all of your projects!!! I am a follower of your blog. My favorite Christmas custom when our children were little were putting the tree up as a family. Every year since my 11yo niece was 2yo, I take the kidlets caroling to my neighbors, (I now have 1 niece and 3 nephews that come) and we sing a few songs and hand out homemade goodies. The kidlets look forward to it every year. Afterward we have hot chocolate and cookies for supper.

  85. I'm a follower, too. My favorite Christmas Tradition is Christmas cards. I love getting family letters and pictures from friends and family that are spread out. Since I rarely see them in person it is extra special to be able to "visit" with everyone during the holiday season.

  86. I just became a follower! My favourite Christmas custom is to bake cookies with my grandsons and package them up to deliver to our neighbours !

    ReplyDelete
  87. I thought I was a follower and I am for sure now. We grew pine trees to stop the soil erosion on the hills of WV and so we always had a home grown pine tree for a Christmas tree. I remember my dad planting the trees in sections on the hill behind and beside our home. Some years when the trees were small enough, we sold trees for extra Christmas money. We always left cookies and milk from our own dairy for Santa and his reindeer. They enjoyed them.

  94. I'm a long-time follower, too....I am in love with your pinwheel runner! Our fav Christmas custom is opening a window each day on our special advent calendar. I brought it home long ago, from Germany when I was on my high school graduation trip. LOL The scenes are so sweet....kittens sleeping by the fire, children hanging stockings, mommies baking. Then on Christmas eve we open the largest window showing the manger scene with Baby Jesus, and we read the Christmas story from Luke. Good memories!

    ReplyDelete
  95. I am a new follower and I especially love the Christmas tree! And what a clever way to hang projects to photograph them. My family has had 2 traditions that are favorites of mine - my boys always helped their Nanna (grandmother) make fudge before Christmas and we always make a birthday cake so that we could remember to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Thanks for your beautiful projects.

  97. I am a new follower, I like your table run with the Christmas tree. We have lots of customs. First we get presents at the Christmas Eve. In the morning we go to the cemetery to be with our father, then the nieces decorate the christmas tree as our child has a cerebral palsy and cannot do it himself, so he enjoys that this alternative way. In the evening we join with my brother's family to celebrate this special evening when Jesus was born together that is my best moment as I love when family is together. That became ours customs. We have lots of them during the dinner when lots of stuff we do and eat has its meaning. One of them is that we cut the apples across to see if there is a star or a cross in. STar means good health.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Hi Jane I love all your quilts especially the one with the round circles....very nice...can' have to much Christmas! Yes I follow you well now by email. Our favorite tradition is I make a tablecloth every Christmas for the Christmas dinner. Then everyone who has shared our dinner signs the back of it and it is already pre marked somewhere either under a plate or a chair on under the table itself on who gets to take the tablecloth home with them this year. Since I always do the dinner we have been doing this for about 14 years now and it is just something my DH and I like to do...I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday....

  105. Wonderful projects, I really love the tree! I'm a follower and no special Christmas traditions other than we do a White Elephant for the extended family.....we each bring a gift, draw a number and then pick a gift which can be "stolen" by the next person.

    ReplyDelete
  106. I follow via email. We have a pretty ordinary custom. Our family gets together (about 20-30) of us and we split up and "try" to sing the twelve days of christmas. We have yet to have a year where someone doesn't forget whose turn it is or if its 10 lords a leaping or drummers drumming. We finally had to buy the books for each family...somehow we still mess it up. Its a great laugh each year. after this fun we move on to the gift exchange/steal which ia always a laugh.

  109. I'm following. One of my favorite Christmas customs is to go to the Festival of Lights at a town nearby. Before the lights are turned on we gather at the life size manger, say some prayers and then watch for the lights. I've attended so many times but I still gasp at the sight. It's beautiful and always fills me with joy. After I get a hot chocolate or hot cider and tour the displays. Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful projects.

  111. I have a few traditions in my family and the one that means the most to me is going with the entire family to the Christmas Tree Farm near our home to pick out our tree every year. My parents took me and our family to the very same tree farm since I was a baby and that continued throughout my entire childhood and into adulthood. I continued that tradition with my own 3 children. They looked forward to going each and every year to the same tree farm because the family who owns it is the same as when I was a child although it is now run by the 4th generation. They thought that was pretty cool and the owners children running it became friends with my children since they knew me and allowed my children once in awhile to drive the wagon taking visitors out to the field to pick out their own tree. They have these huge horses puling their wagons so my kids thought that was so much fun. Anyway, this could get long because there are so many years of things I could say but my children are grown and now have their own children who they are continuing the tradition with them now too. That means my family is now in it's 4th generation of family going to the same tree farm owned by the same family too. That's a very strong tradition when you think that spans over 50 years (we won't say HOW MANY years past that though K?) when so many times a business is not open that many years, much less owned by the same family that long. I can't wait till this Christmas because one of my boys and his family is living with us right now. Last year we went out there with them and our Granddaughter (my son's daughter) who was a baby then. Now she's 1 yr old and so much fun. She's going to be super fun to watch this year when she sees Santa out there and all the Christmas pretties everywhere.

  116. First I'd like to say hi neighbor - I am in Georgia! I just forund you rblog and I am a new follower. I loved all your projects but the ornament tree is my favorite!
One of our Christmas customs : When I was little my father would go outside and stomp around on the roof to get us to go to bed the night before xmas. My hubby used to do the same when our daughter was little and I can't wait to have grandchildren so I can do the same.
We also decorate a tree outside with orange and apple slices, peanut butter dipped in birdseed and tiny bits of yarn for the birds. Then we all wait by the window and see how many different birds come to visit!
It is very nice to find your blog. xo jan@sewandsaowfarm

  122. Beautiful projects ... I really like the christmas tree quilt with the bright colored ornaments. I'm a new follower via email. My favorite Christmas tradition when growing up was getting together with the family and baking Christmas cookies. I think the best part of the day was when it was time to eat some of the cookies with a glass of milk or hot chocolate.

  123. Now following! Glad I found you.

My favorite tradition is one my mom started. She always gave me a box of chocolate covered cherries for Christmas, and she always wrapped them up even though I knew what they were. After she passed away in 1997, my son started doing the same thing. The first year he did it, I had to shed a few tears as it touched my heart so much that he knew how special that little gift was to me.

  125. Your projects look wonderful! My favourite Christmas tradition is to pick one gift to open on Christmas eve. My Mom would have some gifts under the tree for us to choose from just before bedtime on Christmas eve. I know she held back the 'big' gifts. I carried on this tradition with my daughter and now she does the same thing for my grandkids.

  132. When I was growing up we always made tamales for Christmas. We would stay up late on Christmas Eve to accomplish this and have a feast in the morning after church. My mom always put a black olive in her tamales. I don't know why or when this started but not many people do this. So now it isn't a tamale unless it has that black olive in it! I follow you on email now!

As for favorite memories, my mom and dad always gave gag gifts to my 2 sons every year and mom has continued to do this after dad passed away 7 years ago. Also she has to make homemade fudge every year for all of us. She is 87 now and it takes her awhile, but we still get our fudge. Thanks for the chance to win.

  139. Hi Grandma,
I am a long time follower of your blog.I love your tree made with the circles. Our family loves Christmas trees. One of our most important customs is welcoming the Christmas season with a tree trimming party. We invite our friends to come and decorate a real tree with lights and ornaments. The ornaments are eclectic and have lots of stories with many of them. There is a stork for our son who is now grown while others are musical, astronomical and teacher related objects. Our guest list always includes our close friends and often includes our single friends who do not have family close by to share the holiday season. I always make a table filled with our favorite snacks and appetizers. It includes a savory concoction called Nuts and Bolts. This recipe is made with mixed nuts and a variety of crackers, cheezies, pretzels, wasabi peas, and cereals( Life, Cheerios, Oat bran and wheat Chex) The nuts and bolts have a sauce made of oil, garlic and celery salt and tabasco, worchestershire flavoring that is poured over it and baked in a low temperature oven. It is always a hit and enjoyed by all. The party has been held at different times in December - sometimes as late as December 23 and other times earlier to kick off the season. There is always lots of music and fun times with friends. It is the camaradery and fun times spent with friends and family that make the season special.
I am a kindergarten teacher and have lots of fun making things with my students. However, a special event is held at Christmas that involves my students writing letters to Santa. My students have been fortunate for the last number of years and Santa has come to visit complete with a present( often the one that was requested) These Santas give me the greatest gift of all- seeing my students experience the joy and wonderment little children experience when the magic of Santa is part of Christmas. Many of my students come from families with very limited incomes so it is indeed special. My part is small- we make sure our kids write letters( with help) and write thank you letters.
    Regards from Alberta,
    Anna

  141. I host an annual cookie decorating party for my grandkids and friends, all the sprinkles and icing is for little fingers to decorate their cookies as they please. I always make each child a homemade gift, I have made aprons, hats, cookie bags, this yr is mug rugs for Santa's letters and a few cookies. They love it.

  142. I call my tradition, "Just one Daddy PLEASE!!!" Every year growing up we would beg my dad to open just one present on Christmas Eve. We would start asking about noon, and keep asking off and on through out the afternoon and evening. Now my dad has passed on, and my sister and I have a Christmas Eve celebration, and sometime in the middle of it, we look at each other and it comes out "Just one Daddy Please!!!", it makes us laugh, it brings back such great memories and always leads to opening at least one present.

Thanks for the chance, I follow you with bloglovin

  143. Well we leave cookies for Santa and carrots for his reindeer, and we watch the local news channel because they give us updates on where Santa has been spotted so everyone can be in bed before he arrives.

  145. I love the holiday colors in the bright sunshine! You work looks wonderful...and so does your new fencing. Sorry it had to come to that, but I think you are wise. Our favorite tradition begins Christmas Eve...we make all of our Elfie deliveries, make gingerbread houses (which we began so we didn't have to answer the question "When can we...." a million times), the Pilot Man reads three stories...Yes, Virginia there is a Santa, The Night Before Christmas, and the King James version of the Christmas story... the kids take their stockings down and place them in "Their" spots, open one present if they choose and we all retire. And then while everyone sleeps, the head elf wraps like crazy ;0) !!

  146. Your quilts are positively joyful, especially the tree! Thanks so much for sharing. I'm following your blog via Bloglovin. My favorite Christmas custom is building a gingerbread house. I used to do it with my children and now I do it with my three-year old granddaughter. Lots of messy frosting and candy and sparkles - what fun!

  148. Great work! And good job on tacking UFOs.

My favourite custom was spending the day with my grandmother. When I was a girl she would always stay over at our house, and we wouldn't be allowed into the living room until 8AM once Gram and Poppa were up and had their morning coffee... We continued this even after my Poppa passed away until 2010... In 2011 my grandmother was in the hospital for Christmas so after opening our presents at home, we all headed into see her before lunch. Unfortunately that was our last Christmas with her. But I do continue the 8AM start with my kids.... and they are good about it, just like my brother and I -- opening our stockings as a family.

  149. I am a happy follower. Our favorite Christmas tradition is driving through the neighborhoods that put out luminaries on Christmas Eve. We put Christmas carols on the radio and it is so beautiful and peaceful to drive through.I love those tissue holders and the table runners are so pretty. I love the pinwheels. I could have them for every season in every color. So much fun.

  150. I signed up to follow by email. I like all the things you made, espcially the tree made with ornaments.

My favorite custom is playing my violin &/or handbells at the Christmas Eve service.

My second favorite custom is one my extended family adopted when several of us were unemployed and could not afford to buy gifts. We call it our garage sale gift exchange (rather than white elephant). Each person finds something around the house that they would put in a garage sale and wrap it. Particiipation is not mandatory and any age can participate. When the majority of my nieces and nephews were a lot younger, we allowed them to choose to participate in the adult drawing or the kids exchange. We draw numbers and then #1 starts and selects one of the wrapped gifts and opens it. #2 goes next and may take what # 1 had or choose an unwrapped gift and open it. #3 can opt to take what either #1 or #2 has or choose an unwrapped gift and open it. This continues around the circle. If a person takes what someone else has, that person gets to take what any other person has or select from the unwrapped pile. When the last person has taken their turn, then #1 gets to choose to keep what he/she has or take from anyone else and that person gets what #1 had. There is sometimes a lot of swapping afterwards. There is no "value" limit other than it has to be nice (no dirty tennis shoes). We have also added another round of exchanging something you make yourself. Again, participation is not mandatory, but only those that choose to participate get to be in the exchange.
