Dream vs. Reality

MY DREAM SEWING ROOM

Drool....Tongue hanging out...eyes popping...chill bumps
Oh my word
Can you even imagine sewing in a room like this???
Look at the storage, the soft color scheme, that gorgeous pink chair, the cutting table, sitting area,
FIREPLACE!, books, TV, soft quilts/Pillows for curling up and stitching...Oh and I'm sure there are hidden jewels we can't see such a surround sound, perfect lighting, ergonomically correct chair for sewing, cushioned rug for long periods of standing, etc....

and
NOW....

REALITY

Bestill My Heart....I know you're asking yourself who is my Designer.  Sorry but I can't divulge such secrets. The Organizational Expert who came in to put all this together has gone big time after showcasing my sewing room as his last project!
Yep, you guys and gals, are going to be keeping my comment button HOT for my advice and creative swagger.  I don't want to seem pretentious by showcasing My CAVE but the truth needed to be told.  This is where the Creativity Begins and Ends...

Excuse Me Friends...HGTV is calling!!

"Why, Hello, yes, is this Candice Olsen??  Oh thank you so much....why yes, I would love to collaborate with you on your next project!.
MY sewing room?  Did I do it myself???  Well, I was the mastermind behind the magic even though I did have some help.  #1 husband with his 'eye for design" did give me a few pointers but I like to think the room
speaks for itself, don't you, Candice?
I am so thrilled you called and look forward to the two of us designing together.

  1. That has got to be one of the funniest, most enjoyable posts I have ever had the pleasure of reading! I call my sewing room my Woman Cave. It looks very similar to yours. I believe the style is called "modern domestic goddess."

  3. I'm thinking there must have been more photos of the BH&G "sewing room" b/c I was wondering where the following were:

    1) sewing machine
    2) ironing board
    3) quilt kitty or kitties
    4) sewing light
    5) cutting board & rotary cutter
    6) little bits of fabric scraps and threads all over the place
    7) pin cushion(s)
    8) rulers
    9) Colin Firth (or hunk of your choice) to make hot tea for you and give you back/neck/foot rubs
    10) etc.

    *grin*

If a sewing room looks that good, you know that NO sewing is going on there. *lol*

I guess we can all dream...

  4. Too funny! Mine is much closer to yours than to theirs but I do have a bit more light - yours looks so dark I wouldn't be able to see. Ever since I went over 60 me and major light are best friends. :) blessings, marlene

  5. As pretty as it is I'm wondering who could actually do any work in that room. Besides it's not the room that makes beautiful creative things, it's the person in it. Thank you for the laugh.

  6. Oh that looks just like my sewing room just different color. Mine is just not big enough but I wonder if it would ever be. My birthday was a week ago and I got a sidewinder bobbing winder and a bias tape maker and an Accu Go Cutter so I am all set with no excuses but I don't know where to set it all up. Then of course it will take me two months to figure out how to use it all. Jonah has already showed me how to wind bobbin's he loves it. I didn't know you got Candice Olsen down your way ? She is a Toronto girl EH! Love ya blessings Sandra

  7. If that were a real sewing room, it would be a great deal messier. And what's with all the "den" side of the room? What a waste of space! Need cutting tables, planning boards, file cabinets for patterns, etc. A real sewing enthusiast didn't have much input on that design. Hope they call me. I could really give them some help.

  8. Wow, that room is too pretty to use......I would just stand in the doorway and admire, I wouldn't be game to go in and sew!

  9. Holy cow! That sewing room is bigger than my whole house!I'm lucky to have space for one chair. I think the comments this time are as funny as the post. Quilters ... gotta love 'em!

  10. Haha! Great post. My sewing room is much like yours...a little too small to be totally organized. What's a little creative mess anyways?

  11. at least your room looks like there is some fancy stitchin is going on...the other one looks like you are allowed to look, but not touch..and heaven forbid if you messed the place up..lol

  12. I can't remember the last time I laughed so much reading a post. Too funny. I would have to buy a new house to put the BHG sewing room in. It just would be sew out of place in my little bungalow. I just finished painting my "sewing room", in fact the paint is still wet. Turned around, yep, my shelf storage unit is MDF, never been painted MDF. Guess I am not finished. I envy you your spool display. My kitty would enjoy it way too much.

  13. LOL! My Girl Cave is a candidate for Desperate Sewing Spaces, too. When I win the lottery, I'm going to replicate the second photo--with all the white cabinets and the "loaded" white center island work station. Until then, it's the old desk and some sturdy shelves!
