STITCH ME UP
NOW I LAY ME DOWN TO SLEEP
One of my favorite projects is quilting, sewing, and stitching items for our local hospital NICU, and the local NILMDTS Photographers to use in their bereavement photography.
For many parents, these items will be the only and final memento of their lost child.
As I stitch, I like to think I'm stitching prayers of strength, compassion, and HOPE into each stitch.
I used Presencia #16 Thread
I'm starting to get the hang of French Knots...thanks to You-Tube videos
In both outline stitches I used a "split stitch" double row technique.
The blanket in the photo is 1 of 4 NILMDTS Blankets with this flower pattern in one corner.
Blankets used to photograph these precious Angel Babies need to be Simple & Elegant.
What a Blessing and Honor to know that my embroidered blankets will grace the precious body of an Angel Baby as it lays in it's Mother's arms for the last time. I've mentioned the NILMDTS organization in an earlier post but I hope this post will be yet another reminder of the many ways your hand stitched items can offer comfort to a family through NILMDTS or other charitable organizations.
LOOK around and Pay It Forward.

ReplyDeleteI am a long-term follower! (Didnt want to say "old", cuz I don't think I am!!)
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the most beautiful and touching posts I've read ever. I am honored that you chose my design to put on one of your baby blankets for the smallest angels called home and their families. You did a beautiful job stitching it and I will treasure the memory of you, that receiving blanket, and your generous heart, forever. Thank you. Cyndi
ReplyDeleteI am glad you liked my blanket. I'm new to embroidery and I will improve as I do more but I thought your designs lent themselves to the simplicity I needed for a NILMDTS blanket yet added that special touch no "store-bought" blanket could have. My daughter is a NILMDTS Photographer so she actually uses the blankets in photographing the angel baby and then gives the blankets to grieving parents. She tells me some of the most touching stories of how a mother will hold the blanket close to her face trying to not forget the smell of her lost baby, or holding onto the blanket as though it is her lifeline, and on and on...so many lives are touched by the simplest of gestures. A hand embroidered blanket for a grieving mother is so simple and yet a gift for life. Thank you for your designs, Cyndi, and rest assured they will grace the corners of many more angel baby quilts. Blessings Cyndi
DeleteI always cry when I hear about NILMDTS, what a beautiful creation you have made for these parents, thank you.
